What is tasseography?

Tasseography is the practice of interpreting patterns left by tea leaves or coffee grounds in a cup. The term is commonly linked to the French word tasse, meaning cup, and the Greek-derived suffix -graphy, meaning writing or recording. Coffee-reading traditions usually consider both the shapes and their position in the cup. Tasseography has developed in different forms across parts of the Balkans, the Middle East, Greece and other coffee- and tea-drinking cultures.
