Cup Rim
Traditionally, symbols near the rim are read as the present or very near future, often days or weeks.
A ladder is step-by-step advancement at work or in learning. Count the rungs, since they often hint at how many stages remain. A ladder leaning on a wall or a tower is a career step, and one going down can mean a return to basics. A ladder with a person on it is someone climbing, or helping you climb. Near the rim the first step is soon. It rewards patient effort. A ladder with broken rungs warns of a setback on the way up, while one leading toward a star or a bird is read as an ambition fulfilled.
Coffee cup reading, often called tasseography, grew through Turkish, Balkan, Greek and Middle Eastern coffee traditions. Readers look at the shapes left by the grounds, where they sit in the cup and which signs appear beside them. Meanings vary between regions and families, so this guide presents traditional interpretations as folklore and reflection, not certain predictions.

The position of symbols in your cup is crucial to their interpretation. Different areas of the cup represent different aspects and timeframes of your life.
Traditionally, symbols near the rim are read as the present or very near future, often days or weeks.
In many traditions the middle section is linked with the coming months and medium-term developments.
Symbols at the bottom are traditionally read as the more distant future or deeper, slower matters.
The anchor is stability, or something holding you back. An upright anchor means security, a safe harbour, a relationship or a job that keeps you steady. An upside-down anchor suggests you feel stuck and want to move on. Anchors are also read as hope, since sailors trust them in a storm. Beside a boat or the sea, a journey ends and you find a home, and near the rim the answer comes soon.
A cup is comfort, hospitality and a social gathering. It shows up when there will be guests, a family visit or a friendly conversation over coffee. Several cups indicate celebrations or important social connections. A full cup means generosity and a good time, while an empty one asks you to refill your energy, or to invite someone over. A cup near the handle is a visit in your own home.
The key is an opportunity, access to something new, or the solution to a problem. A clear key suggests answers are close. It may be a real key, like a new home, car or office, or a mental one: an idea that unlocks a stuck situation. Beside a door it means a way in that was closed is now open, and near the rim it arrives within days. A broken key warns of a lost chance. Two keys together are traditionally read as a choice between two openings, and a key beside a house points to a move or a new home.
A ring in a coffee reading signifies commitment, marriage or engagement, and partnerships sealed by a binding agreement or contract. A continuous, unbroken circle points to lasting loyalty, harmony, and mutual respect between partners. A broken band warns of shaken trust or an unkept promise that needs an honest talk. Near the rim, a proposal or signed deal concludes shortly. Beside hearts or coins, it joins devotion with lasting security.
